Disney Princesses Evolve

Disney’s latest animation installments have moved away from its airy fairy plots and storylines, to become less about snagging the prince, to more about strength of chracter and knowing one’s self.

Of course we love the old classics like snow white, the all time favourite Cinderella, and of course beauty and the beast and Aladdin, which all pretty much centre around true loves kiss: after all, we all love a good fairytale ending to escape to once in a while.

However, break away features like Brave, which is Disneys first princess animation without a love interest, centred around a fight to choosing Meridas own path, and frost, also about true love but this time, the love of a sister, have been a welcome diversion.

its taken a while to break the mold but better late than never. With the ever changing dynamics of family life and women’s perceptions of themselves all around the world. it is about time Disney gave the stronger less girly girl something to hold on to, if they were to hold on to that slice of that market.
