Beautiful Mums Share Beauty Secrets

My daily beauty regime is really very simple. I am a very busy mom of two with a very demanding job and schedule; I’m sure a number of women can relate with this.

Fortunately, I am blessed with very good skin, blemish and pimple free (well most of the time).  My face has always been very smooth and as a young girl, I never used any products on my face, not even the infamous “Shelley”.  However, once I left school and had to cope with the stress of getting a job, earning income, living on my own, and so on, my erstwhile smooth trouble-free face developed rashes, pimples and fine lines. It was a trying period and it was at this time I experimented with a number of products with some not so good results.
Today, as mentioned earlier, my routine is fairly simple. My face is extra sensitive so I only use mild products and I am never in a hurry to try out new products or brands.
I wash my face with Clinique liquid facial soap (mild) twice daily. Next, I cleanse my face with Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser and use the Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner to tone up my skin.  I finish up with the Oil-free moisture for Sensitive skin also by Neutrogena. I have used all four products religiously for well over four years. I interchange the moisturizer with an equally gentle product by Aveeno.
Drinking plenty of water and getting enough rest is the golden rule to having a flawless skin and complexion…..I wish I could say that’s part of what I do, but its not. I can only imagine how much more youthful and healthier my skin would look if only I could add those two to my very simple regime!

My daily beauty routine is pretty straight forward. I try to keep up with it as much as I can. Apart from the fact that this is part of what I do, I have learnt that the secret to a bright and glowing skin is consistency with your beauty routine, no matter what. Over time, it will pay great dividends especially as age sets in. For me, organic recipes or treats are a necessity because of the amazing benefits; its budget friendly, easy to make, enriches the skin causing it to glow whilst maintaing its supple nature. Organic recipes and natural products fulfill one’s desire or goal to have a smoother, healthier and more radiant skin. The risk of allergies is greatly reduced and you have a great variety to explore with.

The CTM formula (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize) is observed morning and night. In the mornings, I use L’oreal Derma Genesis daily exfoliating wash, followed by Sonya Aloe refreshing toner then I use Sonya aloe nourishing serum followed by Forever Epiblanc to even out my skin tone and of course Aloe sunscreen, my skin saver and complexion keeper. I alternate L’oreal revitalift morning cream in place of Sonya aloe nourishing serum.

At night (the time when the skin is most nourished), I use Emani aloe & glycerin bar, followed by glycerin and rosewater toner, then revitalift night cream. I also alternate with Forever Epiblanc. Every two-three times a week, in the mornings, I make sure to use sugar and honey as my exfoliator after cleansing my face. Also do same for my whole body, paying attention to my knees and elbows. Once in two weeks, I try to do the milk and honey bath in tepid running water, soak in for 15 minutes after a good bath. Once a month I do my mini-facials at home. I cleanse, exfoliate, steam (not for sensitive skin), mask, tone and moisturize. Also once in a week, I try to use organic masks which is the evaporated full cream milk, coffee and yoghurt after I cleanse or exfoliate. I apply, leave for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse off with tepid water.

My body cream is the one and only shea butter but the processed one because the natural one sold without processing contains lead that can darken the skin. Also exercises are a part of who I am so I workout out at least 3 times a week, drink plenty of water and eat healthy. I say my beauty creed every morning ‘Beauty is Me’, that’s the summary of my creed.

Wow, I sound vain right? I can’t even believe myself too. The truth is that every woman may not be able to go the 9 yards but can certainly make a conscious effort towards looking good and feeling great, (little drops do make a large ocean). As far as one’s self esteem is concerned, a great skin is a fantastic booster. The true confession is that I do fall short but never give up. My skin is quite prone to acne and pimple but shea butter deals with them at night when applied.
My first law of beauty is this…”Beauty is first within, then without.”
