9-year-old girl confronts abductors after 3 years of child labour

In Lagos yesterday, a 9-year-old girl named Iyabo was rescued by the Lagos State Police Command from her abductors.

According to various reports, Iyabo was abducted about 3 years ago by a woman who is part of syndicate specialized in child trafficking and labour. Since her abduction, Iyabo’s name was changed to Blessing by her abductor and was taken from one home to another to work as a domestic help for a price.
According to Iyabo, she was used as a maid and each time she told her employers that she was stolen, they beat her instead of alerting the police. Iyabo who said her parents live in Oja Oba begged the police to reunite her with them.

Boldly confronting one of her abductors, Iyabo asked, “Okay you claimed that you did not abduct me, was it not the woman in pudah that brought me to you and she later took me to your house.

“How much were you trying to sell me for? Very simple N130,000.

“Yes all you have done in the secret will be exposed today, I did not ask you to abduct me. You wicked woman, you changed my name to Blessing, and promised to poison me.”

Iyabo will remain in the custody of the police until she is reunited with her family. Meanwhile, Iyabo’s abductors will be charged to court as the police work on arresting the abductor’s ring leaders.
