Father shoots 9-months-old baby while cleaning illegal gun

Pedro Rosales, 45, of Brooklyn, New York, was reportedly cleaning his Colt .45 when it accidentally fired and shot his 9-month-old daughter in the stomach. The handgun was unregistered. The baby’s mother, Jessica Aguilar, 24, wasn’t home at the time of the shooting, however when she returned she saw her baby girl with blood all over and crying. So the couple decided to get on the subway with their bleeding baby and lie about everything.
We can make assumptions. But what is being reported is that the couple got on the subway in East New York where they live with their bleeding baby girl Jessica (named after her mom). They didn’t tell that to authorities though. What they initially said is that they were on the subway, got off at Myrtle Avenue, and that’s when they realized their child was bleeding. It seems they were trying to cover up the illegal gun at home situation and try to say their baby was shot on the train without them realizing. They headed to nearby Woodhull Hospital and that’s when the truth came out.
The gun was found at the family’s apartment. Pedro was arrested and charged with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and acting in a manner injurious to a child — he also has a history of gun arrests. The child’s mom has also been charged with reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
