Breastfeeding Mums Banned From Nursing Children At Breastfeeding Conference

Breastfeeding mothers are outraged after being banned from feeding their children at a summit on nursing babies.

The bizarre snub was discovered after the government event was announced to promote the use of breast milk.

Delegates who asked to bring babies to next month’s conference at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium were told by officials the venue “is not designed to accommodate breastfeeding”.

Bosses have now backed down after a flurry of complaints but claimed they did not expect mothers to bring children, reports the Daily Record.

Campaigner Dr Lesley Taylor, 31, said: “A few asked if they could bring a nursing child or requested an aisle seat in case they needed a quick getaway with their baby. But they were told the summit could not ‘accommodate’ breastfeeding. The advert for the event said the Government is trying to break down the barriers to breastfeeding. They should be setting an example and being the change they hope to see.”

Labour MSP Elaine Smith added: “It’s astonishing that breastfeeding mothers were not welcome at a conference on the very issue.”

Dr Taylor, who runs Normalising Public Breastfeeding, was among dozens of volunteers and NHS workers invited to the conference.

Women who emailed officials to check children were welcome got a reply saying it was “mainly aimed at professionals and service providers”.

It added: “We ask babies and infants are not brought along.”

  • What’s now the essence of the summit, if women cannot breastfeed? I mean isn’t the conference to educate nursing mothers? I don’t get this at all

  • I think they are not been fair to nursing mothers, who are the very essence of the summit in the first place

  • Not fair on nursing mothers at all….but I think they r upto something… maybe trying to get peoples opinion , maybe

  • From the article, they stated it that infants and babies should not come along. And they have their reasons, there is always a rule in every summit. Thank God the date was extended too for all to be able to attend.

  • According 2 d article it was written dat babies n infact shuld not be brought, is a simple instruction. So u r left with d option 2 attaind or not

    • If all breastfeeding mothers take the option of not coming so as to be able to feed their kids, then nobody will be available to learn from the summit

  • So then, what will be the essence of the summit /conference since it has to do with breastfeeding if breastfeeding mums are banned???!

  • If nursing mothers are banned frm comin to a conference dat concerns breastfeeding, wht is d essence of d summit. Well there mst b a reason or smtin more to it.

  • So what’s the essence of the summit then? Women should be encouraged to buy the nursing canopy do they can breastfeed without exposing themselves

  • You can’t bring women to a conference to educate them on breastfeeding and you are firing some of them for breastfeeding their kids, what are they trying to prove?? I smell pranks here.

  • Breastfeeding in public can be done discreetly without exposure like d picture above.

  • Shame on them .I bet they won’t bat an eyelid if it were all these artistes and actresses half clad but for a woman to breastfeed her own child wl b an eyesore for them
