NHS Reportedly Offering Free Condoms & Sexual Lubricant To Children As Young As 13 Without Their Parents’ Knowledge

The NHS is offering free condoms and sexual lubricant to children as young as 13 without their parents’ knowledge.

The purpose of the scheme is to cut teenage pregnancies however the Family Education Trust says the initiative “denies” mums and dads the chance to “protect their children” against the consequences of underage sex.

The C-Card scheme, available to those aged 13 to 24, also aims to reduce the number of young people catching sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia.

The schemes are in place across England including in most London boroughs, Suffolk, Nottinghamshire, Medway, Cambridgeshire and Blackpool.

It exists in Wales and will be introduced at 30 new venues across West Sussex, including Shoreham, Hassocks and Midhurst.

The Family Education Trust campaign group told Mail Online: “The role of parents and carers is vital in protecting young people as they are privy to emotional wellbeing, friendship groups and unusual behaviours.

“They are therefore uniquely positioned to intervene and safeguard. The C-Card scheme denies parents the opportunity to advise and protect their children against the physical and emotional consequences of sex.”

Those who sign up to the scheme get 12 condoms and lubricant plus information on how to use a condom effectively.

Those aged 16 or over can use the card six times and aged between 13 and 15 can use it three times – after this the card must be renewed.

The scheme’s sessions are held at clinics, hospitals and GP surgeries with other locations including a sixth form college.

Mum-of-two Sarah Underwood, 42, from Lancing, West Sussex, told the website: “‘I’m not naive to think information and protection should not be available until 16 and I agree advice needs to be given. But I do think 13 is a little young to get free condoms and that would be a concern for me.”

However, Sexual Health West Sussex lead health advisor, Richard Williams, said: “Providing good access to expert advice and free contraception through the C-Card Scheme improves the sexual health of young people in West Sussex. The registration and review process provides a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space to talk about sex and sexuality with a trusted adult. Registering for a C-Card helps young people of all ages, not just those who are sexually active.”

  • I don’t really blame them… Kids are spoiling quick. lols… beside parent can get it for free from thr kids. … Its a way forward to reducing number of unwanted pregnancy

  • Shoudnt their parents know? I believe the parents should Atleast know and the age is a no no for me. A child should be Atleast 18yrs of age before been handed condoms

  • lts one thing to share condoms and another thing for them to use it.l think at that age they should be given sex education, educated on d dangers of teenage pregnancy contracting STD n discouraged from having sex till atleast 18 yrs.

  • Really???? Am so not in support of this. Handing a 13 year old a condom doesn’t mean he’s going to use it if he’s going to engage in the act. What happens to morals and good upbringing? Instead of sensitizing these kids, your teaching them how to enjoy sex early in life without consequences.

  • Really? I don’t buy this please. With or without parents in the know, its a no no 4 me at that age.

  • Their parent should knw abt it….that’s just too early. They can teach them sex education and not giving them condoms, that’s too wrong abeg.

  • Its too wrong a thing to do,rather than dem sensitizing dem on sexual education dey r some how encouragin early sex.if they know dey r doin d rite thing y kip their parents in d dark.

  • As much as I don’t support giving then condoms at this age but kids are now having sex and I see why they are giving it for free incase they can’t afford to buy and use it.

  • If a girl starts having sex at 13 hmmm I wonder what the girls veejey will look like when she’s 25. The age is a no no abeg

  • They should hv atleast done it in collaboration with parental interest/support since they hv decided to finally destroy whatever is left of decency in their society. God have mercy on them. #smh

  • That’s what happens when little children are in a hurry to grow up. Condoms at 13yrs?????

  • No! I don’t support that.apart from doing this without d parents knowledge, d kids r too young & am sure d condoms wl even make d kids to experiment

  • I don’t buy it @ all,for crying out loud,13 is 2 young 2 have sex. Once they r given d condom, they get curious n experiment on their classmates. They r just encouraging promiscuity n indirectly advertising condoms.

  • Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Don’t believe this is right at all….. They are campaigning and promoting see..

  • Hw culd they do dat without their parents Knowledge…Am against it and d kids are too young. 16-18yrs of age is ok nt 13yrs abeg.

  • Grouse!!!13yrs, is a wrong step to take, children of these days like to experiment &i don’t think anyone has the right to give my kids condom at that age! Because children of this days like to experiment such subject should have as started as early as possible from home ,what they should have done is to sensitize them&get a consent form signed by the parents before giving them such atrocious previleddge! It is totally wrong!!give my six year old ur hipad, you will be surprise what she can do with it,then try my 8yr old daughter she is already a guru, how much more when you give them condoms at 13yrs,to look at it or to experiment with, mba biko!

  • Is this part of sex education too? I don’t support this @ all. And without their parents’ knowledge? No no no

  • Won’t it encourage them to start experimenting?Even those that didn’t have it in mind before.Give them sex education, not condom
