Avery Ford made national headlines earlier this month when he broke hospital records at Saint Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in Tampa, FL. Weighing in at 14.1 pounds, he officially is the largest baby ever born at the hospital. His mom, Maxxzandra Ford, says that despite suffering some nerve damage in his arm during the natural birth, Avery is getting stronger by the day.

It probably won’t come as a surprise that he’s sped right past the stage of wearing newborn baby clothes. At less than a month old, he’s already wearing clothes sized for babies 3 to 6 months old. Of course, the family has been receiving calls from all over with questions about the infant—even from family. Maxxzandra explains that her family has been so surprised to see her on news stations across the country, from Kentucky to New York.

She admits that she had no idea her son’s weight would be such a big deal. Granted, she also didn’t know she was pregnant. It wasn’t until she was 35 weeks along that a doctor told her that the few extra pounds she had mistaken as holiday weight were actually a baby. Despite the history-making birth, the pregnancy was extremely low-maintenance.

“No nausea, no vomiting, no back pain—I worked!” the mother explains. Her astonishing story is still turning heads.
