Woman Putting Up With A Family Slit Children’s Throats

A woman staying with a family as a guest used a steak knife to slice the necks of two young children as they slept, the Daily Mail UK reports.

According to the media, Sadie Jenkins, 28, allegedly went into the bedroom of a 16-month-old girl and seven-year-old boy and began sawing at their throats.

Homeowners Nigel and Ceri Ash, both 58, were woken by the children’s screams and ran into a bedroom to see Jenkins allegedly holding a knife above the baby girl. The hearing was told the girl’s throat was ‘slashed open and bleeding’ as Jenkins shouted: ‘Sorry, it had to be done.’
Mr and Mrs Ash pushed her against the wall and wrestled the serrated steak knife out of her hand before picking up the girl to run downstairs.

Prosecutor Paul Lewis said when they entered the lounge they discovered the seven-year-old boy in the corner of the room holding a blanket to his throat.
The boy said: ‘Look what she has done’ before removing the blanket and revealing a ‘gaping wound’ to his neck.
Mr Ash called 999 for paramedics and police to help at their house in Newport, south Wales, following the attack on May 7 last year.
The two injured children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital and underwent immediate surgery to treat their life-threatening wounds.

The boy suffered an 8cm wound to his neck which made the ‘deep structures in his neck visible’ and required 20 stitches. The 16-month-old girl was left with a 6cm-long injury which had cut through the skin, fat and muscles and needed 15 stitches to close.

Mr Lewis said: ‘Alongside the major wounds were a number of small lacerations which suggested to doctors that there had been some sort of sawing motion.’
Jenkins broke down in tears as the case against her was laid out at Cardiff Crown Court.

The court was told Jenkins was staying at the home of Mr and Mrs Ash to discuss the imminent loss of her own flat.
Jenkins, of no fixed abode, denies attempted murder of the two children. She claims to have been ‘legally insane’ at the time of the attack because of drug use.
The court was told Jenkins had recently been placed on anti-depressants by her doctor – but had also been taking the illegal drug amphetamine days before the attack.
When she was arrested at the scene a paramedic is said to have heard her say: ‘I didn’t mean to do it, I am sorry.’ She told doctors in hospital that ‘voices told me to do it’.

Mr Lewis said: ‘She has been seen my mental health professionals and two consultant forensic psychiatrists have come to the conclusion that at the crucial time she was suffering from an amphetamine induced psychotic illness.
‘The doctors are of the opinion that when she attacked the children, her mental condition was such that she knew what she was doing but she didn’t know that her actions were wrong.’
Mr Lewis told the jury it was up to them to decide if Jenkins was insane at the time of the attack.
The trial continues.
