4 Ways To Get Rid Of Mouth Odour

Having a smelly mouth can be quite embarrassing while putting a lot of people off. Try these 4 simple tips:

1. Practice Basic Oral Hygiene

Pay particular attention to nooks and crannies in your mouth while brushing, clean your entire tongue thoroughly. Of course, there’s need to floss regularly too.

You may also gargle with salt water in the mornings and evenings after brushing.

Also consider rinsing your mouth or brushing, if you can, after every meal.

2. Avoid Stink Foods

Eat a banana or apple in place of stink foods like onions, garlic, cheese, and coffee.

3. Keep Your Mouth Moisturized

A dry mouth will likely stink, as there’s very little or no saliva to help curtail the activities of bacteria in the mouth.

Chewing sugarless gum helps as chewing results in more saliva secretion. Look for chewing gums with cinnamon flavouring as they are said to reduce bacteria counts in the mouth. Those sweetened with xylitol too are recommended. Xylitol is a sugar substitute said to prevent bacteria from replicating in the mouth.

Drinking lots of water too helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

4. See A Dentist Regularly

You should see a dentist twice a year for oral examination and professional teeth cleaning. This will also provide an avenue to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of mouth odour.

Note that bad breath can be a result of an underlying medical condition. So, see a doctor if nothing works.
