See What A Callous Man Did To Girlfriend’s Son

A 2-year-old boy, Khaleel Hussain, died from a serious brain injury at Birmingham Children’s Hospital after his mum’s boyfriend threw him at a ceiling, days after he’d tried to smother him for “whinging” before bedtime.

According to Mirror UK, the man, Keith Brown, initially told cops the boy died from falling down the stairs at home. He then changed his account to say he had dropped him while they were playing when the toddler’s mother, Samina Kauser, 25, was out shopping.

Brown denies murder and Kauser denies allowing the death of a child.

Prosecutor Jonas Hankin QC told Warwick Crown Court Brown had most probably “forcibly” shaken the youngster and thrown him onto a soft surface.

He said: “Mr Brown told Miss Kauser that Khaleel had fallen down the stairs. That was the account he gave to the police. Fourteen months later he changed his account completely. He now claims that while throwing Khaleel ‘almost to the ceiling’ to stop him crying he ‘got it terribly wrong’, he missed him and that Khaleel landed head first. The prosecution case is that Khaleel’s collapse was caused by a very serious brain injury that had been intentionally inflicted by Mr Brown, most probably by shaking Khaleel forcibly and throwing him down on to a soft surface.”

The court heard Kauser had been out shopping for 35 minutes when her son suffered the fatal injury at the home they shared in Richmond Street, Coventry.

But the jury were told a week before Khaleel’s death, Brown had “smothered” him with a duvet because the tot was “whinging” after bedtime.

Mr Hankin QC added: “Miss Kauser described how Mr Brown was in Khaleel’s bedroom smothering Khaleel’s face with his duvet. Why? Because he had apparently lost patience with Khaleel who was whinging after bedtime. Miss Kauser challenged Mr Brown. She told him leave her son alone. She knew from Khaleel’s long and subdued silence after Mr Brown had left the room that he had been harmed.”

Kauser dialled 999 at 1.04pm on October 21, 2013 and Khaleel was rushed to University Hospital Coventry with a significant brain injury.

He was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital later that day where he was operated on. But doctors gave him just two per cent chance of survival and he died at lunchtime on October 22, 2013.

The jury were told a pathologist examined Khaleel’s body and found bleeding in his eyes and lungs which occurred days before his death. Mr Hankin QC added: “That can be explained by an episode of forced airway obstruction. In other words, smothering. Miss Kauser failed to take reasonable steps to protect her son from a risk of serious harm. The simple step of ensuring that Mr Brown was not left alone and unsupervised with Khaleel might have prevented her son’s death.”

The trial is still ongoing.
