Man, 63, Infects Step-daughter, 13, With HIV

A 63-year-old man, Alabi Ibrahim, was on Friday ordered to be remanded in prison by an Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, for allegedly infecting his 13-year-old step-daughter with HIV.

According to Punch, the accused person who had earlier been arraigned for allegedly defiling the said minor, was re-arraigned for infecting the victim with the virus.

The shocking discovery was contained in a medical examination report tendered before the court.

The Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. O. Osunfisan who stood for the plaintiff in the case instituted by Child Protection Network, a Non-Governmental Organisation, told the court that the accused, by the medical report, infected the victim with the virus.

During cross examination, the accused admitted being HIV positive, but vehemently denied having carnal knowledge of the step-daughter, let alone infecting her with the deadly virus.

He told the court that the victim had earlier been sexually abused by a relative of his wife, adding that he resolved to send the girl packing when he observed that she was wayward and loose.

The DPP, while presenting the medical reports conducted on November 2012 as exhibits 2 and 3, emphasised that the accused infected the victim after defiling her.

She added that the accused also got a separate a room for the girl in the home to pave way for regular sex with her.
