See What Lightning Did To 3-Year-Old Twins’ Bedroom

Twins, Isobel and Jessica Hobson, narrowly escaped death after lightning struck their bedroom, causing part of the building to collapse. The horrified children were rescued by their dad.

The Mirror reports:

The twins had been asleep in the loft at their home in Braintree, Essex, when lightning struck at about 2am on Saturday morning.

Minutes later, the whole of the upstairs of the house collapsed, sending bricks and beams onto the girls’ bedrooms upstairs.

Their dad, Darren said: “We heard this loud bang and the room was lit up with blue. Jacey (the twin’s sibling) started crying and we thought she was just afraid. I went up the stairs to comfort her, but when I went to switch on the light it exploded. Then all the lights along the hall popped as well. As I was ducking from the glass, I saw the flames in the loft. If Jacey hadn’t have started crying, we would have a very different scene here. In about two minutes the whole roof went up. There are fire breakers between our house and the one next to it and that did its job and stopped the fire spreading. Otherwise the whole row of houses could have gone up.”

Darren ran back into the house several times to turn the gas off and rescue the family’s passports and photos before the smoke became too much.

The fire service arrived shortly afterwards at 2am after receiving several phone calls.

The side of the roof collapsed whilst two of the firefighters were inside. Luckily no-one was injured, although Darren said the family is very lucky.

“Everyone is fine, although shocked. The children are really sad that they have lost all their toys and their Peppa Pig bedsets.”
