See Why Barack Obama & Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg are Interested in This 14-Year-Old

A 14-year-old Irving, Texas schoolboy, Ahmed Mohamed, was on Monday arrested and suspended for bringing a homemade clock to school after one of his teachers thought it looked like a bomb.

The ingenious boy reportedly spent about 20 minutes before bedtime on Sunday to assemble the clock using a circuit board, power supply wired to a digital display and other items.

He first showed it to his engineering teacher, and after the clock, which he kept in his schoolbag, beeped during class, showed another teacher.

The teacher told him the clock looked like a bomb, and Ahmed was later taken to the principal. He was reportedly led out of the school in handcuffs, detained by police officers for questioning and later released and given a 3-day suspension from school.

His dad told The Dallas Morning News: “Because his name is Mohamed and because of September 11th, I think my son got mistreated.”

Now, the ugly episode as put Ahmed in the spotlight, as high-profile individuals, including US president, Barack Obama, and Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, have praised his efforts and want to meet him.

Barack Obama shared Wednesday afternoon on twitter:

“Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, wrote on his personal Facebook page:

“Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed. Ahmed, if you ever want to come by Facebook, I’d love to meet you.”

Former US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, also tweeted support for Ahmed, saying his arrest was a product of Islamophobia.
