How Dad Maltreated His Daughter For Bringing ‘Bad Luck’ To Family

A 47-year-old man from Kenya Rashid Adan has been arrested for forcing his 10-year-old daughter to sleep at the door step of their home for 4 years.

The dad with the girl’s grandmother treated her this way because they believed she brought bad luck to the family.

A team from Nairobi News visited their home and found the girl seated at the door step still in her school uniform with her books and eating a meal she said was given to her by neighbors.

According to a neighbor, David Wanyoike, this is not the first time they had reported the incident but nothing was done by the police.

He went on to describe how the girl was maltreated, he said: “We feed the child whenever we can, but whenever her grandmother realizes that she has been given food, she shouts and hurls insults. We cannot even give her blankets because the old woman literally snatches them and throws them back”. He also stated that the girl had tried committing suicide before by jumping from the fifth floor of their flat but was rescued by neighbors.

Another neighbor James Kinyanjui said the grandmother always boosted that her and son could not be arrested by the police. Speaking further he said: “This is not the first time we are reporting this matter. This man has been arrested severally but his mother has been using all means to get her son out,”

Speaking on the incident, police officer OCPD Nyakwaka said  “We have information that the man has been claiming that the girl is not his biological daughter and that she brought bad luck to the family”.

The man who has three other children he treats better will be arraigned soon to face child neglect charges.
