GRAPHIC: Breast Cancer Survivor Shares Post-treatment Photos to Raise More Awareness

A breast cancer survivor, Jenn Alter, 36, took to her Tumblr blog, Pushing In the Pin, to share graphic photos of her chest after undergoing a 35-day radiation breast cancer treatment to create more awareness about the devastating effects of the disease. The photos have since gone viral. See below:

She wrote: ‘Here’s your f****** breast cancer awareness. This was during my 35-day radiation treatment back in 2013. Breast cancer isn’t sexy. It’s not about saving the boobies. It’s not about no bra day, which is really just an excuse for women to post sexy pics of their nipples pressing through their clothes. It’s scars, nausea, pain, bald heads, burnt skin, and broken hearts. If this doesn’t make you “aware” then I don’t know what will. Does it make you uncomfortable? It should.’

Speaking to DailyMail, Jenn, who is now in remission, said: ‘I made the post because I wanted people to know that breast cancer isn’t about “saving the boobies.” In fact, many women end up losing theirs to try to stay alive. This disease has been sexualised in order to supposedly raise awareness, and, because of that, society is able to ignore the brutal, ugly truth of breast cancer and breast cancer treatment. I wanted to show that ugly side.’
