Man Threatens to Kill Lover’s Husband

A certain Olusegun Ashogbon has appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill one Mr. Aderemi Remi-Louis, husband of his lover, Mrs. Abiola Remi-Louis. Ashogbon is said to have sent threatening messages via the mobile number 081446488xx to Remi-Louis on 16 June, asking Remi-Louis to leave the wife or be killed.

The wife in question, Abiola, and Ashogbon had been dating since October 2014, a mere six months after she moved out of her matrimonial home on Akanbi Crescent, Onitiri area of the state, reports Punch.

It is said that that the mother of three and the defendant had been living in a rented apartment on Awin Street, Bariga, while a divorce suit between her and her husband was still pending in the state’s high court. In his statement to the police, Remi-Louis said:

“I received a call through 081762477xx around 8.22am on June 7, 2015. Two minutes after, I called the number and discovered that the subscriber was in a conversation with some other people, telling them that Ogbeni yen ti pe (the man has called). Nine days after, I received a threat message from 081446488xx.”

The message read:

“We were calling you but you did not answer. You called our boss a thief when he phoned you. You can’t snatch our chairman’s wife. Your odeisi (charm) against bullets cannot work. We will turn you to suya and put your body inside a Ghana-must-go bag and feed your body to fish.”

Ashogbon confessed to the police that the number 081762477xx belonged to him but denied knowledge of the message. He was subsequently arraigned before the chief magistrate, Mr. P.A. Ojo, on two counts bordering on conduct likely to cause the breach of peace. The charges read in part:

“That you, Olusegun Asogbon, between June 8 and 16, 2015 in the Bariga area, in the Lagos Magisterial District, being the owner of mobile phone numbers 081446488xx and 081762477xx used same to threaten the life of one Aderemi Remi-Louis by sending grossly offensive words threatening to cause him harm.”

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was given conditions for bail. The case was adjourned till November 17, 2015.
