Man Posts Suicide Note Before Driving Himself & Kids into Ocean

It has been revealed that a South Australian man who recently killed himself and his kids by driving into the ocean had posted a suicide note on social media about 5.45am on Monday. South Australian Police say Damien Little ‘deliberately’ drove his car into the ocean at high speed off the end of Brennan’s Wharf in Port Lincoln, west of Adelaide with his two children, 4-year-old Koda and 9-month-old Hunter, in the early hours of Monday morning, Daily Mail reports.

The note was later removed from the Facebook page he shared with his wife, Melissa, who is said to be ‘distraught’.

Damien’s grieving brother 36-year-old Shannon, reportedly broke down when he visited a makeshift memorial at the wharf where the family was found inside the submerged car. In his tribute to the man whose reason for committing murder-suicide remains unknown, Shannon wrote,

‘Damo, my brother Damo, thank you for the memories you left me with. Please watch over me — you have now left me here to kick all the goals, bro. Forver flying, Shanno & Kyra. Hunter, fly high you little man. Watch over us all, we will never forget you. Uncle Shannon and Aunty Kyra.’

Mr Little, who reportedly plunged the family’s white Ford station wagon into 30 metres of water, was a respected coach at the Lincoln South Football Club and was in his 30s.

South Australian Commissioner for Victims’ Rights Michael O’Connell has urged people not to rush to blame Mr Little over the tragic deaths.

‘This tragic, heart-wrenching incident has caused a great deal of anguish for family, kinfolk and those who knew them, but also to many who find murder by a parent to be among the cruellest of tragedies,’ he said.
As people seek to come to terms with what has happened, they should be careful not to victim-blame.
We do not know the reasons Damien did what he appears to have done and speculating helps neither the family nor the people of Port Lincoln.’

Investigators have said they were not treating the incident as an accident and police have confirmed Mr Little had ‘deliberately’ driven off the wharf’. A rifle with a telescopic sight was also recovered from the water.

A police spokesman said witnesses saw the car ‘going quite fast’ and ‘kind of flipped’ as it went into the sea. The white station wagon then ‘quickly sank’.

The young family had been working on planning a new home in rural South Australia that offered views of Boston Bay, where the bodies were found.
