Mentally Challenged Woman Gives Birth in Kaduna Market As Hundreds Look On

A mentally challenged woman reportedly gave birth to a baby boy at the Kaduna Central Market yesterday as hundreds looked on in amazement. A woman was said to have served as a midwife while few others formed a circle around her in front of a bank adjacent the Kaduna State Media Corporation, KSMC, where she fell in labour.

Vanguard reports the woman identified simply as Hassana, 22, had wandered around the market for years.

A trader in the market said, “She moves in tattered clothes, scavenging for food around this market. Now, someone has impregnated her and God has helped her to get a fine baby boy. Many people are looking for this blessing, but he chose to give it to a woman who is not even in her senses. And the father seems not to exist.”

It was learned a journalist with Deutsche Welles, DW, Ibrahima Yakubu, who was at the market at the time provided money to convey both mother and child to the Yusuf Danstoho Memorial Hospital, Tudun Wada, Kaduna, for proper medical assistance.
