Mother, UK Police, Appeal For Information On Missing Nigerian Student, Ozi Akerele

Today, January 31, make it a year since Nigerian student, Ozievo Akerele went missing  without a trace leaving his widowed mother heartbroken. The 24-year-old Masters student of Coventry University, UK, was last seen after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of the morning on Jan. 31, last year.

Ever since, officers have released CCTV of Ozi’s last movements, issued media appeals for sightings and searched miles of the canal network and outlying area where Ozi was last seen. The officers have worked closely with Coventry University who continue to distribute posters asking for information and previously offered a reward of up to £20,000 for information which would help find the Ozi who came to Coventry to acquire a Masters Degree in Management of Information Technology after completing his first degree in Nigeria.

Inspector Alastair Orencas who is leading the search for Ozi said that in spite of extensive searches, investigation work and media appeals, they are no closer to finding Ozi than they were a year ago. Today being the anniversary of his disappearance, he again appealed to anyone who may have any information to come forward. He also said that he is in regular contact with Ozi’s mother, Irene Akerele, and that his dearest wish is to have news for her to end the pain of the suffering woman.
Ozi left his three brothers and widowed mother in Abuja, Nigeria to seek further education in the UK.
After his disappearance, his mother, Irene Akerele came to England to assist with the search. She described her son as being on the quiet side but a happy boy who’s always excited. He always had friends around him and was very generous, she said.
She said her son was happy to come to Coventry University, that he wanted it to school there and even sought the admission himself. She added that his disappearance made her regret sending him out to do his Masters Degree.
