Woman Takes A Positive Pregnancy Test, But Ultrasound Reveals Something Different

A user 0n Imgur shared the story of his wife’s unusual “pregnancy”. He told us how he had been elated when a pregnancy test proved his wife was pregnant. They already had a son and were very excited at the news of their family of three welcoming an additional member.

But as his wife’s pregnancy advanced, she began feeling very sick. He noted that the symptoms were much different than those she experienced during her first pregnancy.
During an ultrasound session on the eleventh week of her pregnancy, they received a shocking news. Not only was it revealed that there was no baby, the ultrasound exposed exposed a tumor called a molar pregnancy.

A molar pregnancy happens when the tissue that normally becomes a fetus instead becomes an abnormal cluster of cysts in the uterus.

In his wife’s case, she was going to have to immediately undergo a DNC or “dilation and curettage” to remove the tumor. In addition, doctors had to completely remove the uterus, if necessary.

Luckily, he said, they were able to perform the procedure without having to remove any reproductive organs.

Though this husband and father was disappointed, he said it made him appreciate what he already had.

“Though we didn’t get to add to our family, I am so thankful for the amazing wife and son that I currently have,” he said.
