Mother of Six, Angelina Jolie Shares on Not Wanting to Be a Mum & How That Changed

It’s difficult to think of Angelina Jolie as anything less than a super mum but there was once a time when the actress, humanitarian and filmmaker had absolutely zero interest in having any children at all.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the 40-year-old mother of six said,

“It’s strange, I never wanted to have a baby, I never wanted to be pregnant. I never babysat. I never thought of myself as a mother.”

All that however changed when she went to Cambodia in 2000 to film Tomb Raider.

“When I first came to Cambodia, it changed me. It changed my perspective. I realized there was so much about history that I had not been taught in school, and so much about life that I needed to understand, and I was very humbled by it.”

During another trip back to the country as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N., she was playing with kids at a local school and it suddenly became clear to her that her son was in the country, somewhere.

Two years after that in 2002, she adopted her first son, Maddox. Now, she and actor husband, Brad Pitt, are also parents to Pax, 12, Zahara, 10, Shiloh, 9, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 7. Shiloh and the twins, Knox and Vivienne are the couple’s biological children while Pax, Zahara and Maddox are adopted.
