6. Walk on the Cool Side

It’s simple yet fun. Taking a normal walk in the park with the breeze fleeting across yours and baby’s skin, the trees swaying in the sunlight and casting a warm shade that seems to dance to a rhythm can be a rich source of sensory stimulation and quiet pleasure. Let your baby reach out for new discoveries which are safe to touch as you point them out, engaging him in babble.

7. Sand Castles and Cuisines

This must be the oldest form of play in the books. It sounds yucky but offers lots of sensory fun. Apart from developing motor skills as he moves and explores, he discovers different sand texture. Invest in a sandpit and a few other sand play toys for babies to make it safer and introduce more sensory activities. Remember to keep a watchful eye.

8. Texture Hunt

A blanket, an old towel, that corduroy jacket you hardly wear and the silk pashmina you bought on that vacation several years back can be cut into smaller sizes in different shapes (pieces should not be small enough to stuff in his mouth or swallow). Put these in a basket, hand over to your baby and watch his curiosity get fired up while exploring and wondering about this variety of new textures.

9. Tea and a Tickle

You can explore the different methods of tickling while developing your child’s sense of touch. A baby’s skin is very sensitive but different children will react differently to the same tickly items like a feather, a piece of fabric or string. Rub these materials lightly across her cheek or the soles of her feet and see how it brings out the giggles. Laughing will also make your baby relax and do you too some good.

10. Listen to Good Music

While your child is making good progress in her Symphony of the Pots ‘n’ Pans, you can also give him a good template to enjoy some real good music. Play the cool classics, jazz, rap, rock or reggae.
