Aisha Buhari Commissions Health Centre In Cross-River State

The first lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari flagged off her Pet Project yesterday, 18th of April, 2016, with the commissioning of Primary Health Centre at Ikom stadium, Cross River state. The project is tagged “Project Future Assured” .

The wife of the President, hailed the Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade and his wife, Linda Ayade for providing a conducive environment for the new born babies and aiding the reduction of maternal and infant mortality in the state.

She also commended Mrs Linda Ayade for launching her foundation and choosing to be a maternal and child health ambassador for the state.

“I will like to commend the Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade for providing a conducive environment for the official flag off of MNCH week and also congratulate his beautiful wife, Mrs. Linda Ayade for initiating the Mediatrix Foundation. I wish her success in her new role as maternal and child health Ambassador in Cross River State,” Mrs Aisha said.

She also spoke on the intention of the Federal Government to bring quality healthcare service closer to the people, the reason for the establishment of one primary healthcare centre in each political wards across the country.

“The Federal Government is desirous of bringing this quality health care services closer to the people at the grassroots, which is the primary reason for the establishment of one primary healthcare centre in each political wards across the country.”

According to Naijnews, Aisha Buhari, the initiator of Mediatrix Development Foundation and wife of the Governor, Mrs Linda Ayade called for quick intervention in correcting the dismal trend of maternal and child deaths in the state and also in the country adding that in Cross River, the percentage of skilled birth attendants stand at 41 percent, leaving the remaining 59 percent to gamblers.

She also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the establishment of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHDA).

Mrs Londa Ayade expressed her grief that pregnant women in the state still visit unskilled birth attendants, prayer houses and churches despite the free health programme made available to them.

According to her: “The ugly trend must be stopped in our society. Infant mortality rate is 75 in every 1000 live births. This high maternal and mortality rate contributes to the national picture and therefore is totally unacceptable.”
