Meet 5-Year-Old Boy Who Had A Toothbrush in His Tummy For A Year

A 5-year-old boy has shocked doctors and his parents after the doctors found a 6-inch long toothbrush which he had swallowed a year ago, in his stomach, claiming he was too scared to tell his parents he had swallowed it.

Dailymail reports a 5-year-old Indian boy, Keshav Sahu had always been complaining of stomach ache but his parents kept giving him medicine to make him feel better.

Later, the pain became worsened that his parents had to take him to Raipur Medical College for treatment where doctors detected a stone in his bladder and a 6-inch long object. They were forced to carry out an operation on the youngster because the object was near his bladder.
When doctors operated on the child, they were stunned to find a toothbrush in his stomach.

The toothbrush removed from Keshav’s stomach

Dr Patel, the Paediatric surgeon who treated Keshav, said: ”The foreign object was not clear in the x-ray and ultrasound.

”When we pulled the stone out of the boy’s bladder, a 15 cm long stick came out with the stone covered with blood. Later, we came to know that it was a toothbrush. The toothbrush had ripped three holes in the child’s intestine before it reached the bladder.

”The stone was removed and the internal damage was tended to immediately.”

Meanwhile, Keshav’s father, Mr Sahu, 33, was shocked when he learnt about the strange object they found in his son’s tummy.

He said: ”He never told me he swallowed a toothbrush. He had been complaining of stomach pain and would throw up food.

”While we tried to subside the pain with painkillers, he would only cry every day.”

The youngster from Chhattisgarh in eastern India, is now responding well to treatment and recovering fast but still not sure of how he swallowed the toothbrush.

Keshav told the doctors that he didn’t tell his parents he had swallowed the toothbrush because he was scared.

”It was an unusual case as generally we come across cases like swallowing of coins by children,” Dr Patel added.

”People generally die in such cases if they are not provided treatment on time but how this little boy survived is nothing less than a miracle.”
