Good News! ‘Mama Oyin’ Who Abducted Trader’s 1-Year-Old Toddler Arrested

On May, 16th 2016, the news of a 1-year-old toddler identified as Fehintola Lawal, who was kidnapped by one ‘Mama Oyin’ at Olaniyi Street near Bola Events centre between an abattoir and Abule Egba around past eleven in Lagos, went viral.

On May, 20th, 2016, CCTV footage at the supermarket where she disguised as a customer, revealed that she strapped Fehintola to her back before aescaping with the girl (read here).

Yesterday, 1st of June, 2016, ‘Mama Oyin’, real name Zainab Salisu, was arrested by the police.

Punch gathered that Salisu was arrested on Wednesday by policemen attached to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, in the Idimu area of the state, where Fehintola and another toddler were found at the hideout, rescued from the suspect before she was whisked away by the police.

Fehintola’s aunt, Lolade Oseni, said on the telephone that the woman was arrested in the Idimu area.

She said: ”The woman was arrested on Koleade Street, Council bus stop in the Idimu area. She was arrested around 1pm on Wednesday. She has confessed to the abduction. She told the police that she wanted to make  Fehintola her own child.

”Another child was found in her apartment. Some other suspects were picked up along with the woman. The police did a good job. The family members are happy.”

It was also learnt that the police were perfecting preparations to release Fehintola to her family members.

The police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Salisu’s arrest, adding that the girl had been reunited with her family members.

She said: ”I confirm that the abductor has been arrested. The girl has also been rescued and she is with the family members. Other details will follow later.”
