Makeup Artist Bimpe Onakoya & Husband Robbed at Gun Point in South Africa

Award-winning makeup artist Bimpe Onakoya and her husband were yesterday robbed by four armed men in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to a post she shared via Instagram, they were attacked less than an hour after their arrival into the country by men with sophisticated guns who robbed them of everything in their possession, including their passports.

She wrote:

My hubby and I were robbed at gun point this morning in Jo’burg, less than 1 hour after touch down, they crossed our car, four guys came out armed to the teeth with sophisticated looking guns, they emptied us, took everything, my makeup box, my camera and lenses, 2 Mac laptops, all our clothes, our international passports, so right now we don’t have identity in a foreign land, the police have been wonderful to us, still trying to find a solution to this mess!!! #strandedinjoburg!!

She posted an update later to say that she and her husband were safe and that they had received help from the Nigerian consulate.

This has been one of the longest days I have had in a while! But you know through all, God always places help around for his own children. My hubby and I are fine and unharmed. Apart from some initial confusion, the Nigerian consulate has been very helpful to us. They have accommodated us, given us funds to buy phones and a change of clothes and even fed us. May God bless them real good. We are also grateful to the South African Police that made sure we were attended to, and the officer that also borrowed me his phone to make the previous post so that our loved ones will know the situation. We are moving past this traumatizing experience with thankfulness to God for allowing us to come out with out lives. Thank you all so much for the show of love. We really appreciate you.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post by someone identified as Matthias Obahiagbon revealed that Nollywood actor and President of Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) Fred Amata was also a victim of armed robbery yesterday.

He was on his way back from a business dinner, on behalf of his guild, very tired and looking forward to the warmth of his bed. As he waited almost endlessly for the street gate to be opened by the security guards, lo and behold some four fierce looking gun-toting men appeared from the dark night, no thanks to PHCN, and off they went with him as captive in his own car. After stripping him of some valuables it was time to demand for the now famous ATM. What is it about these criminals and ATMs, especially at weekends?  Each time his response to giving them the ATM was in the negative his face was visited with slaps. Who do we hold responsible for the blatant abuse, assault, and stealing with impunity of this night marauders? However, we are thankful he is alive to tell his story after he was dropped off miles away from his home without shoes. These were taken from him, though he begged that they allow him have his clothes on as a public figure. Na God touch their heart there. Luckily the police drove him home in a patrol vehicle at almost 3am. A report of his stolen vehicle has been made to the police; a signal already sent across Lagos state; one of his many phone lines retrieved; and a phone bought for easy communication.
