“I don’t hate Igbo men” – Nollywood Actress Queeneth Agbor Issues Disclaimer On Recent Interview

Rising Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, has come out to issue a disclaimer that she does not hate Igbo men after she was quoted as saying that “Igbo guys are domineering and they have the tendency to be violent” in a recent interview with Vanguard.

In the interview, she spilled on relationships, dating, and marriage. She said that although she has nothing against Igbo men, she would rather date outside that tribe because she thinks Igbo men have a “crude mentality of women being totally submissive to a man.”

Read excerpts from the interview below …

On dating and marriage

I have nothing against Igbo guys. Not dating an Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba guy is a personal decision. I have gotten a lot of threats since the statement was made, so I wouldn’t want to talk about it. After I said this, a lot of people asked me what is with Igbo guys that I hate? The truth is, Igbo guys are domineering, and they have the tendency to be violent. They have this crude mentality of women being totally submissive to a man, the slave-like submission and I hate it.

On choosing the tribe to marry from

When I start thinking of marriage I will give that a consideration. I have as well heard things about Yoruba guys that they are philanderers. At the appointed time, that is, when God says it is time, I will choose, but for now, I can’t say. On a second thought, I think I want to transfer my gene elsewhere. Mind you, I have dated a Fulani guy before (laughs).

The actress, however, insisted in the disclaimer that she was misquoted in the interview.

She wrote:

On Saturday an interview I granted a respected newspaper, Vanguard, was published but curiously I was misquoted and many of my sentences misconstrued. I am issuing this statement for the record purpose and for the sake of posterity. I have a lot of regard for vanguard newspaper despite this unfortunate incident, I do not in anyways hate or dislike Igbo people. I dated an Igbo guy in the past. The fact that the relationship didn’t turn out right doesn’t mean all Igbo men are bad. I have met wonderful Igbo people much goodness abound among Igbo, one person’s behaviour cannot be used as a yardstick to define a whole tribe.. I sincerely apologise to all Igbo people who feel offended by the statement. I have absolute respect for all tribes and will not be too myopic to generalize based on the shortcoming of one man. The statement that I would cut corners if my husband is not good in bed and God will understand was misconstrued…… I wish to move on from this unfortunate incident and will not be making reference to this in future interviews…. Once again I apologise to all those that feel offended. God Bless You All!!!!!!! THanks
