Serena Williams’ Dad Richard Suffers Debilitating Stroke And Memory Issues

While tennis star Serena Williams won the Wimbledon last week, her dad, Richard Williams, suffered a stroke and has since been experiencing debilitating memory issues.

Radar Exclusively reports that the 74-year-old dad was released from the hospital last week following the stroke but has been left with memory issues.

Mr Williams, who coached the two tennis sisters to the top of their game, is believed to have had the stroke while his daughters Serena and Venus were competing at Wimbledon, but they kept the news to themselves.

Serena won the women’s singles title this year, while she and Venus won the women’s doubles

The sad news was revealed by his 37-year-old third wife, Lakeisha Williams, who said that her hubby was stable but not at 100 per cent.

She stated: “His condition is fair – he’s up and walking around but he’s not at 100 per cent.

“He needs speech therapy, psychological therapy and physical therapy but for now he refused.

“I’m trying to get him under control and relaxed so that when we come back from out of town we could try to get that going. But he doesn’t wish to be bothered with anybody.

“His mind is thinking that they’re going to put him back in ‘prison’ – which is what he calls the hospital. He thinks we are just going to take him back to the hospital, but that is not correct.”

According to Lakeisha, she believes her hubby is under the impression that he never had a stroke to begin with.

She added: “His mind is telling him that since he was once in charge of his life, after what’s happened he’s not accepting it. To him he’s a normal person – nothing happened to him.

“We have to let nature take its course. I’ve been with him a long time so I know what he’s trying to say. It’s like training yourself for your child – like a baby, you have to think for them.”

Williams and Lakeisha, who is just one year older than Venus, tied the knot in 2010 and they have a 3-year-old son, Dylan, together.
