4 Key Ways to Cope After A Heartbreak

Whether a relationship you were deeply invested in just crashed like a pack of cards or a very close friend or family let you down in the most unimaginable way, here are 4 key things you should do to enable you heal as fast as possible and move on with your life…

1. Purge yourself of all the negative emotions. Cry if you need to. No need trying to deny your pain, disappointment or even resentment. Acknowledge all the feelings you may have, reflect on your own mistakes, learn from them and decide not to let the situation stunt your growth and ruin your happiness as well as chances of having healthier relationships.

2. Open up. Keeping your thoughts to yourself will make healing more difficult, as you may likely continue dwelling on the past and constantly coming up with fresh lists of ‘if onlys’. Sharing your regrets and feelings with trusted family and friends, and expressing them in a diary regularly will enable you purge yourself of all negative emotions and energy, and gather some motivation to heal and move on.

4. Forgive. Holding on to the past unnecessarily by continuing to nurse resentment or bitterness towards those that hurt you and even bad-mouthing them has a way of stunting your progress. Even if you’ll never be friends again or have anything to do with each other, try to forgive and leave your issues in the past. With time, you’ll find even those times you recall how badly hurt you were, it wouldn’t matter anymore and you’ll feel at peace with the past.
