Parents Left In Shock As 16 School Girls Allegedly Eloped

16 Kenyan secondary school girls who are believed to be in love have put their families in crises after they allegedly escaped to another country with their lovers to Uganda.

Kenyans News gathers that the students from Matumbei School are said to have eloped with their lovers after being impregnated.
Narrating what led to their escape, residents said men in the locality have been impregnating the students then evade arrests by escaping to the neighbouring country.
Within a year, parents in the school say they have lost 16 girls to the pregnancy menace with efforts to trace some of the students proving futile.
A parent said: “They disappear together with the girls to Uganda because it’s just nearby. Others escape to different regions within the country where they cannot be arrested.”
According to another resident called Dorothy Cherop, who narrated how her 15-year old niece got pregnant and left with the lover to Uganda, adding that they were yet to establish the whereabouts of the girl.
Peter Maina, the Deputy County Commissioner stated that some of the parents were frustrating attempts to curb the menace by accepting payments from their daughters’ lovers.
Maina stated: “The sad part is that parents are being paid for their silence therefore, security officers aren’t receiving proper information.”
Meanwhile, education stakeholders in the region had expressed concern over the high level of pregnancies among school children.
