It’s Official! Democrat Hillary Clinton Becomes 1st Woman Nominated For U.S. President

On Tuesday, the Democratic National Convention, DNC in Philadelphia made Hillary Clinton the first female presidential nominee of a major party in the nation, a historic milestone that sets the stage for a battle to prove to voters that she is someone they can trust in the White House.

Nine years after launching her first presidential bid, Clinton was formally nominated on the second evening of the Democratic National Convention, CNN reports.

It was largely an evening of unity after an opening night marked by resistance from die-hard supporters of the  Democratic runner-up, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

After she had won a majority of delegates in the lengthy state-by-state roll call vote, Sanders himself moved at the conclusion to select Clinton as the nominee.

He then announced from the convention floor as delegates roared their approval:

“I move that all votes cast by delegates be reflected in the official record, and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States.”

The former first lady, New York senator and secretary of state said via satellite after a video montage showed the faces of all 44 male presidents before shattering like glass to reveal Clinton waiting to address the convention from New York:

“What an incredible honor that you have given me, and I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet.”
