62-Year Old Woman Gives Birth In Australia. Doctor Says It’s ‘Madness’

An Australian woman, Adriana Iliescu, has stunned many after she gave birth at age 62, making her the country’s oldest woman to give birth, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to reports from 7 News, Adriana gave birth by C-section at 34 weeks at Frances Perry House private hospital in Melbourne on Monday. She is still in the hospital recovering and was supported by her 78-year-old husband throughout the procedure.

Still baffled on the woman’s case, an Australian Medical Association President, Michael Gannonblasted the new mum’s decision to give birth to a child at such odd age describing it as ‘madness, selfish and wrong’.

Gannon made the scathing remarks as other experts said ‘no IVF clinic (in the country) would do this’ saying bodies were ‘not designed to have kids in 60s’.

‘Anyone thought ahead to its teens? Selfish, wrong.’

The Tasmanian mother had undergone many failed IVF procedures over ‘several years’. It’s said that the woman was implanted with a donor embryo in an operation outside Australia and was supported throughout the pregnancy by her 78-year-old partner.
