Polio Virus: Shock As Two New Cases Is Reported In Borno State

Nigeria’s progress towards attaining a polio-free status may have suffered a setback as reports of two fresh infections in Gwarzo and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno State, have emerged.

According to reports, the new cases were recorded yesterday, August 10th. Officials of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, have however refused to comment on the reports, which if confirmed, will ultimately dash Nigeria’s hope of being certified Polio-free by the World Health Organisation next year.

The last time the infection was reported was in July 24, 2014 in Kano State. Nigeria was the last country on the continent to report active transmission of the wild polio virus.
