13 Quick Tips To Ease Off Your Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is one of the top causes of misery most pregnant women have to deal with. Thought to be the body’s response to increased levels of the pregnancy hormone, human chronic gonadotrophin (hCG), symptoms could range from vomiting to feeling sickly and tired, a lack of appetite and sleep, as well as nausea. Find tips to help you manage it while it lasts:

1. Always eat light food high in protein and complex carbs, especially close to bedtime, so your tummy is likely settled in the morning.

2. Keep simple snacks, such as crackers, by your bed to snack on in case you feel nauseated during the night.

3. Eat 6 small portions of meals throughout the day instead of three large portions and eat slowly. Avoid lying down immediately to aid digestion.

4. Eat crackers or dry toast before getting out of bed in the morning. Rest for few minutes afterwards before starting your day.

5. Drink fluids at intervals throughout the day but do not drink too much at once.

6. Include bananas, rice, ginger or peppermint tea in your diet and avoid foods or smells that tend to trigger your symptoms. Watch out for non-food triggers too.

7. Ask your doctor about taking vitamin B6 supplement as this may help.

8. Lemons may also help. A lot of pregnant women claim they find the smell and taste comforting. So, sniffing a slice of freshly-cut lemon may relief your symptoms.

9.Minimize consumption of fatty foods as they take longer to digest. Spicy, acidic, and fried foods can also irritate your digestive system and may upset your tummy.

10.Brush your teeth or simply rinse your mouth after eating.

11. Get lots of fresh air and keep your room well ventilated.

12. Rest as much as possible. Nausea can become worse if you’re tired, so, give yourself time to relax and naps when you can during the day. Take out time to indulge yourself.

13. Some women also find sipping peppermint tea or sucking peppermint candies, especially after eating, quite helpful. See if it helps you too.

Overall, talk to your doctor about medications if nothing seems to help, especially, if your nausea and vomiting make it impossible to keep any food or liquid down or you notice drastic weight loss.
