Man To Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation For Stabbing His Wife And Infant Child To Death

A 45-year old man, Dominic Ogah, who is said to have killed his wife, Omagun, and his 16-month-daughter, Blessing, in Mpape, Abuja, may be subjected to psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state. Police authorities are said to have been considering taking Ogah for mental evaluation following his conflicting and inconsistent explanations on the circumstances that led to the murder of his family.

PunchNg reports that the bodies of Omagun and Blessing were found in a primary school, a few meters from their residence in Mpape in October, 2016. The deceased were stabbed to death and Ogah was subsequently arrested by detectives at his farm.

Detectives were working on the theory that an outsider could not have killed the victims and then dump their corpses in a public place. When the suspect was interviewed, he could not give coherent explanation about the death of his wife and daughter and just stared into space.

The suspect’s sister who remains anonymous,  informed the police that  her brother, Ogah, had committed a similar crime when he was living in Ibadan sometime ago. She explained that he was taken to a psychiatric hospital after the incident and when they felt he had recovered, when he was released.

Police and detectives are considering the possibilities that his illness has returned or he was never cured and therefore are sending him back for another psychiatric evaluation to make head way in the case.
