Is This Worth It? Pregnant Nigerian Woman Desperate To Get To Europe Gives Birth On Sea
In a desperate bid to get to Europe, a nine-months pregnant Nigerian woman reportedly named Cynthia has delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy aboard a wooden boat carrying over 30 passengers on the Mediterranean sea. The little boy was named Favour.
The passengers who put their lives at risk were rescued by MSF after being discovered 12 miles off the Libyan coast.
MSF Sea, a medical organization, tweeted;
“Welcome to the world, Favour. He’s 3.1kgs and against all odds is beautifully healthy and doing well. Mama Cynthia is both the luckiest & unluckiest woman alive. It’s miraculous she gave birth with a midwife & a tragedy she gave birth at sea. We are shocked every time we see one of these big wooden boats. It’s a miracle everyone survived.”
The SOS Mediterranee Fr Twitter account revealed, the Aquarius boat is now heading to Italy with 678 people on board, including the mother and child.
According to the UN, at least 3,654 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean this year, the bulk of them on the Libya-Italy route. It makes us wonder why a pregnant woman will embark on that journey, putting their lives at risk.
