”At the age of 19, I fathered a child.” Ooni of Ife Reveals While Addressing Corps Members

The highly revered Yoruba monarch, His Royal Highness, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi,  opened up on some of his personal life experiences he said made him work harder and shaped his life.

He revealed that his grown daughter, Adeola, who is presently serving as a corps member in Abuja was fathered at the age of 19. This was made known during his visit to Osun state orientation camp at Ede.

The king, 42, mourned with bereaved families of the corps members who died recently at various camps in various states, including Ifedolapo Oladepo, an indigene of Ila Orangun in Osun State who died in Kano orientation last month, according to reports.
He called on corps members to be their brothers’ keepers by relating well with one another in order to avoid repetition of such circumstance.
”At the age of 19, I fathered a child, which made the matter more complicated. Life was very tough because I had to cater for my child; but that made me to work harder.
Today, I am very proud to say that she is one of the present batch of corps members in Abuja now. That experience shaped my life and made me to keep striving.

I started going to Benue to bring yam tubers, which I turned to yam powder. I want to encourage you today, whatever you are selling or doing, do it with zeal.
I met Aliko Dangote and Dr. Deji Adeleke and other successful people right inside the market where I was selling foodstuff. I used my background to redefine the way I was selling the stuff.”
Speaking further, he advised corps members not to lose hope in Nigeria and the leadership of the country but to join hands to work together for the development of the nation. He, therefore urged the corps members to put into practice what they have learnt in camp and ask for God’s guidance after their orientation programme.
The Ooni who is now officially married to Wuraola Otiti Zynab Obanor, in Benin, Edo State, was previously married to one Bukola Bombata, who stepped out with him during his coronation in December, 2015.
They got married in 2008, but sadly, the marriage crashed (read here) over rumoured ‘irreconciliable differences.’

  • Indeed “tough times never last, tough people do”. Congratulations to his daughter Adeola. Who would have thought he struggled so hard? Going to benue to buy yams, converting to yam flour and selling in the market. Every successful person sure has a story to tell.

  • At least you had family name that you could rely on, it’s a difficult situation to be a parent without any clue.

  • Fathering a child at that age made him responsible. It gives joy when one looks back at their achievements
