19 Year Old Babcock Student Commits Suicide Leaving Mother In Despair

An undergraduate of Babcock University, Verishima Unokyur, has committed suicide in his parent’s home in Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

Correspondents learnt that the 200-level Social Work student, had on Tuesday sent a text message to his best friend, welcoming him into the New Year with cryptic words “See you in heaven,” included in the message.

The boy, who is a Benue State indigent, committed suicide between that day and Wednesday.

His corpse was discovered by his younger brother.

Asor, identified as the deceased’s younger brother, was asleep at the time of the incident.

“I was sleeping when my phone rang and when I checked, I saw that it was my mum calling. She said I should come and open the door for her. As I was coming down, I saw my brother dangling like a pendulum from where he hanged himself. That was around 7am. He didn’t complain about anything. But I remember that before I went to sleep, he was quiet. I asked what was wrong with him, but he said nothing. My mum had just the two of us; he was my elder brother.” he said.

Metro Plus learnt that the boy had reportedly told his mother, that he would die very soon, a source close to the family who pleaded anonymity confirmed this. The boy’s mother, who has not been named, is said to be a top employee of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. The grief ridden woman, who at the time of this report, was still in shock couldn’t give any statement.
