Banker Arrested for Battering Wife after Denying her S*x as Punishment for Two Years

A bank staff, Raymond Olisa Okani, 41, has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly battering his wife, Nkiruka, 36, after denying her sex as punishment for two years at their Lagos home.

Okani’s arrest and arraignment followed a petition to the police by a human rights group that had tried every means to settle the matter but instead it was getting worse due to the man’s constant assault on Nkiruka, PM Express gathered.

He is accused of assaulting the woman and abducting their three children and hiding them at an undisclosed place suspected to be his mistress’ house.

Okani, who hails from Abagana in Anambra State, is a staff of May Fresh Mortgage Bank at Trade Fair Complex branch owned by Rev. Father Emmanuel Edeh of Adoration Praying Ministry, Elele in Rivers State.

He worked with Edeh for several years and had been given a merit award before he was transferred to Lagos to work at the Bank. He later married Nkiruka who hails from Nssuka in Enugu State and they were blessed with lovely children.

While speaking to newsmen, Nkiruka said that their 7-year marriage started facing problems 2 years ago when Okani suddenly started coming home late from work under the flimsy excuse that he was assisting their female boss in the office and thus stopped sleeping with her, adding that he ordered her to move all her property from their bedroom and restricted her to their children’s room.

In addition, she narrated that their troubled relatoionship became too unbearable for her, as he had stopped providing for the family and at a point, asked her to leave their matrimonial home so that he could bring another woman in. She refused mainly because of their children and then he resorted to constantly beating her.

It was out of frustration that she went to a human rights group office at Ikeja and reported her predicament. He was invited but he refused to come for amicable settlement of the matter.

She said following his refusal by both families and the human rights organisation, the matter was reported to the police who arrested him and charged to court. Raymond was charged with assault and abduction of the children under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The case has been adjourned till 6 March 2017.
