Science Proves These 3 Things Can Ease Labor and Hasten Child Birth

As natural as the pain that comes with child birth is, most women will jump at any opportunity to ease the pain that comes along with it. I know i would. No matter how many times a woman has gone through it, or how short labor was for a lady, childbirth is still one of the most challenging experiences women go through.

Here are three things that could help ease labour and hasten child birth:

1. Dates a.k.a dabino

A small study done by the US National LibraRy Of Medicine showed that women who ate six dates a day during their last four weeks of pregnancy had shorter labors with fewer interventions. In addition, the women who ate dates were more dilated than those that didn’t upon admission to the hospital. It was also interesting to find out that those who ate dates spent (8.5 hours) in labor, and those who didn’t  (15 hours). Given that much of that is time spent potentially in pain, I would pick 8 hours over 15 any day.

The journal of midwifery has also proven that date fruit has an oxytocin-like effect on the body which leads to increased sensitivity of the uterus. It also helps stimulate uterine contractions, and reduces postpartum hemorrhage the way oxytocin ( a hormone that causes increased contraction of the uterus during labor and stimulates the ejection of milk into the ducts of the breasts) does.

2. Sleep

The end stages of pregnancy are usually the times where sleep is hard to come by. However, it could however be worth it to do whatever it takes to get some sleep. It may not be easy given the discomfort due to a large belly, and needing to wake up to pee every five minutes, however; one must try. A study by the US National Library Of Medicine has proven that women who slept less than six hours a night at the end of pregnancy had longer labors and were more likely to need a c-section.

3. Red raspberry leaf tea

Herbal teas can often provide an additional source of nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. Due to the lack of concrete research done on all herbs, it has been advised that pregnant women be cautions when drinking herbal teas. Red raspberry leaf tea has been proven by the US National Library Of Medicine to be safe for consumption during pregnancy. It appears to be able to help shorten labor, prevent pre or post-term gestation, avoid artificial rupture of membranes, and decrease the need for a C-section or vacuum-assisted delivery. It also helps to tone the uterus, increase milk production, decrease nausea, and ease labor pains. Many pregnancy teas also contain red raspberry leaf to help promote uterine health during pregnancy.
