Tragic: 8 Year Old Boy Kills Little Sister after Being Left at Home by their Mother

An 8-year-old boy accidentally shot dead his younger sister and injured his neighbour,  with a gun belonging to his mom’s lover.

PEOPLE Crime  reports that Maurice Mobley, brought a handgun into his girlfriend’s Jacksonville apartment and somehow her son got access to it on Saturday and unintentionally shot his sister and his 4-year-old brother.

Reports suggests that their mother had left the three siblings by themselves for an unspecified period of time when the shooting reportedly occurred.

Chris Butler, a police spokesperson said:

“Somehow the eldest boy got a gun from somewhere and fired a single shot. The bullet hit his sister, killing her , and striking the younger boy who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.” He added that:

We have no reason to believe this [shooting] was an intentional act. We believe in the absence of any other information being developed, that unfortunately this is a tragic unfortunate accidental shooting”

Maurice Mobley, 34, was arrested Sunday in Jacksonville, Florida, on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to jail records.

According to state records, Mobley, is a registered sex offender in Florida in connection with a 2001 case involving sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 16.

Mobley, who later turned himself in to investigators, declined to speak about the charges against him. He remains in custody on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 28. It was unclear if he has retained an attorney or entered a plea, according to court officials.
