The Extraordinary Lives of Conjoined Twins Who Refuse to Be Seperated

Lupita and Carmen Andrade, 16, are conjoined twins from the chest wall to their pelvis. They were only expected to survive for three days after they were born, as they shared the same ribs, a liver, their circulatory system, and their digestive and reproductive systems. Miraculously, the twins defied the odds and are now enjoying their extraordinary lives a teenagers.

Doctors are however contemplating surgery, as Lupita is suffering from scoliosis and her lungs are functioning at 40 percent. They are also a bit weary of the procedure as it could put the girls’ lives in danger. Apart from all the organs they share, they each control one of each of their legs and arms. We can’t imagine how challenging life must be for the girls when it comes to having their menstrual period or going to the toilet.

Despite their medical challenges, they both enjoy what every normal teenager does. They talk about their SATs, getting their drivers permit and going to prom. These amazing girls both love animals and hope to be veterinarians one day in the future after completing their agricultural programme.

Daily Mail reports that when ever they are asked if they want to be separated, both say no because even if the surgery went well they would have just one leg each and years of physical therapy ahead of them.

‘And then there’s the whole psychological situation because we’ve been so used to, like, being together I don’t think there’d be, like, a point.  We’re just going to live out life and that’s it,” Carmen said
