Dear Mimster: Was I Wrong to Hit my Child’s Class Teacher Back?

My 7-year-old daughter was knocked on the head by a teacher yesterday for failing to do her homework.

My daughter forgot the homework book at school. So I told her to explain to her teacher and promise to do it. My daughter returned home and said her teacher gave her a knock on the head. The girl has been having a headache since then.

I was at the school this morning. Waited for them to finish assembly and after they settled in, I went to the my daughter’s class. The class greeted me, I asked the teacher to excuse me that I wanted to see her. She came outside the class and before she could say jack, Wosahh….I landed two hot slaps on her face. She was shocked. I told her immediately that she should not lay her hands anymore on my daughter.

I am ready to pull my daughter out of that school. I just wanted to make a point to that teacher to make her feel the impact of hitting someone on the face or on the head. If hitting the teacher was wrong, then it was wrong for the teacher to hit my child who could have easily been corrected with the right words.

Honestly, what would you have done if you were in my shoes?

  • You went too far oh. What if the teacher had collapsed? You should have just cautioned her.

  • Haba Sister you went too far, two hot slap is too much, for me i will talk with her never to lay her hands on my child again, serious warning/shouting, not by hitting her, how will they look at you and your child

  • Haba madam. You were absolutely wrong. A knock on the head is not enough to give two slaps to a teacher. You could have given a stern warning and next time before u react. U were too harsh

  • I’m sorry to say….. You must be thinking you have disgraced the teacher, NO….. You have just shown how “well” you were raised and how you will raise your kids…. Rubbish.

  • What is wrong with parents of this generation sef? it is wrong to hit a child on the head, still you should have allowed the teacher say something before slapping her. Walahi, i would have given you four times the slaps you landed on my face had i been the one. Rubbish and nonsense.

  • As a teacher I believe u shld have asked ur daughters teacher to explain herself what really happened I know it is wrong to hit a child on the head but bringing down the teachers self esteem in front of her pupils is not right u guys shld not forget that ur children’s life depends on these teachers do maintaining a good relationship with them is necessary a warning was have been enough not two slaps

  • Wow, that was too bad and this has just shown you in your true color, i feel sorry for the generation of children you are raising. Better you leave that school with your daughter after slapping her teacher o. You have gone way out of order.

  • It’s too much! You could Av vented ur anger without hitting her! Dat was very wrong! She 8 Av knocked ur daughter bt taking laws into ur hands is no way out! U could Av reported to the school authorities! Chaiii Soo wrong Biko!!!

  • If I were the teacher I will slap you till you faint. If you know too much why don’t you home school your precious daughter?

  • Two wrongs don’t make a right.
You know deep down that you were not right, hence your question to us.
You should have either verbally queried her or you should have made a written complaint to the school authority. I wonder how it will all end up now.
Despite their faults, we shouldn’t belittle our teachers. They mould the future of our nation.
Find a way to resolve the issue if you can.

  • U slap a teacher who is suppose to impact knowledge into ur child….u were so wrong my dear…u shd have asked her and lodge a complaint to the appropriate authorities…cos she was wrong knocking ur princess… Its better u take ur daughter out…cos the rest of the teachers will not help ur daughter study. They will look on if she’s going wrong or right…u have to apologize…n sort things out…don’t blame anyone if ur daughter doesn’t pull up academically… Remember teachers are a blessing… Jesus Christ was a teacher too
