Dear MIMsters: I Just Want To Leave this Foreign Land With My One Month Old Baby

I’m 27 and I have a baby who is over one month old and we live with my husband in a foreign land.

When I came abroad to join my husband about a year ago, I found out he is cheating on me and he has never apologised or been remorseful about it. Instead, he told me he doesn’t love me, that it is his mom who forced him to marry me and that I am from a poor family.

During an argument, he only recorded what I was saying when I was angry and told people that I am after his money. Throughout my pregnancy, I was in tears because he verbally abused me and I developed HBP  before I gave birth. He even shouted at me during labour.

He turned everyone against me, both his family and my friends. Only my people stood by me. After I gave birth, he went to a welfare office here and told them that I want to run away with the baby so that they can come take the baby away from but they did not.

When I was told I had stones in my gallbladder and that I will be operated upon, he was very happy. Thankfully, I was given drugs to flush out the stones instead of being operated on. Right now, I’m gradually getting depressed and I want to come down to Nigeria to live permanently with my son. I will search for a job and take care of my baby and I. What do you suggest?

  • Ooo my… what advice do you need and what are still waiting for? You ‘re waiting till he starts beating you right – now that you have life move out and be useful to yourself…

  • Maybe you should go to the Nigerian embassy and report and see what your options are on how to relocate back.

  • Why don’t you stay over there, get a job and move out of his house. Life is better there with more opportunities than here

  • If you can search for DPA group on facebook, Br. Emeka Ugwuonye is the one in charge , tell him your predicament he will advice you on what to do. He fight for women who are being maltreated by their husband.
