Nanny To The Rescue: How to Get Your Restless Toddler Fall Asleep Fast

According to a new study, kids who don’t get enough sleep in their early years are more likely to have problems with attention, emotional control, and peer relationships. Find quick tips on how to get your restless toddler to settle down in bed and fall asleep fast.

-Give him a warm bath every night shortly before bedtime. This often sets the mood for sleep. You could couple this with a massage.

-Serve him a banana split (ensure it’s mostly banana) for an early evening snack. The high amounts of potassium, magnesium and serotonin contained in bananas promote relaxation. Magnesium is known to calm the nerves and relax the muscles.

-Teach the art of belly-breathing. Have him lie down on his back with eyes closed and tell him to take slow, deep breaths, with his belly pushing out on each intake. You can rub your hands together to heat them and place on his belly, a couple of inches above the belly button and then replace your hands with his. Do this for a couple of minutes.

-Try an eye pillow. This keeps his eyes closed long enough to fall asleep.

-Keep phones, games, TV and anything likely distraction away.

-Turn off the lights after reading a bedtime story book.
