Mom of 2 Smuggles Phone Concealed in Soup for Her Robber Boyfriend in Prison… Details

A 33-year-old mother of two children has been arrested by officials attached to Special Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS, after her plan to smuggle a phone to her boyfriend in prison custody was busted.

Fatima Balogun, a divorcee was arrested on Wednesday at the gate lodge of Abeokuta maximum Prisons in Ibara.

Balogun, who claimed she lived in Fagba, Iju-Saga area of Lagos, confessed that she hid the phone in the cooler of soup to beat Prisons officials, Daily Trust reports.

She further revealed that she met her boyfriend Ganiyu Ajibode who was remanded for armed robbery 2 years ago.

CP Benson Abolade, the Controller of Prisons, Ogun State command said the action was a threat to national security, as the suspect was arrested for trafficking in Prison, which he said was against the Prison operation.

Balogun upon interrogation  said,

”I hid the phone inside the stew because I know they will not allow me to take it to him in the Prison. I did not know it is bad.

I wrapped it in a cellophane bag. We have been together for two years. I live with my father having been abandoned by my husband who left me with two children. I regretted my action and I plead for forgiveness.”

When asked whether her boyfriend asked her to bring the phone for him in the prison or not, Balogun who looked pale said she was not, but that she felt she would be able to talk to him through the phone instead of coming to the prisons.
