Dear MIMsters: Am I Making A Mistake to Allow My Neighbour Baby Sit My Baby?

Dear Mimsters, please share with me your opinion on this issue. Am I making a mistake to allow my neighbour who is also a mother baby sit my baby?

I have a 7 months old daughter and because I am learning how to sew, my neighbor helps me watch her. My neighbour has a shop in front of their house while where I go to learn how to sew is a few blocks away.

Two days ago, I heard a rumor that my neighbour’s son, a 12-year-old had tried to rape a 4-year-old girl who is actually a relative of theirs; (his little cousin). He was caught by the little girl’s mum who called her husband. Her husband and my neighbour are brothers.

My neighbour begged him not to talk so other tenants would not hear but he went ahead to create a scene that got the whole street talking. I heard so many things about my neighbour that day. They also said she’s very fetish which disturbed me even more.

My husband had earlier warned me not to ever drop our daughter with her and he confirmed what was heard that day again.

If I don’t drop my baby with my neighbour and I take her to my sewing classes, I won’t be able to learn anything. She won’t allow me learn anything as she always wants to be carried. I have taken her with me to my classes on two occasions and I couldn’t learn or get any work done on those days.

I can’t drop her at a daycare either because the last time I did for a few hours, she cried her eyes out and had fever the following day. She is only used to me, my husband and this my neighbor. I’m just worried about my neighbour’s son abusing my son and if he already has, how do I know?

  • Madam, go and carry your baby and tie her at your back while you learn your sewing. To avoid stories that touch, times are evil and every child should be given maximum protection.

It’s simple. Don’t allow stories that touch Biko. Always strap your baby to the back. While you do your sewing.

  • Please do not leave your child with her. You don’t want to look back with regret. You’re going to have to make alternative arrangements or wait bit until she’s a little older

  • Crying won’t kill her please, keep her in a daycare instead look for a good one that has a record of looking after kids well instead of the vice versa. Madam children cry in their first day to school or subsequently but after a while they get used to it and will be the one to wake you up to bath them sef.. So brace up, give her some paracetamol if she starts running fever, after a while she’ll get use to it OK.. Much luck, run from a bad nanny, neighbors etc bcus of stories that touch.
