Dear MIMsters: Did My Daughter’s School Just Bully Her?

Did my daughter’s school just bully her? How do I handle it?

On Friday, the 8th December, I came home to meet my daughter crying. I asked her why she was crying, and she told me because she was placed in the security house at school.

Due to the spots she got from chicken pox, she was basically quarantined and was not allowed to participate in the Christmas party.

My question is, is it right to keep her in the security house for over four hours, alone? When I dropped her off, they would have told me to take her back or phoned me to come and pick her up immediately. Alternatively, they could also have given her a seat at the back of the classroom since it was just a party.

They know how these children look forward to their Christmas parties and they wouldn’t want to miss it for anything. Is this not bullying? Why would they leave an 8-year-old girl alone.

It is even more painful that this is a religious school belonging to a Pentecostal church. If it’s during school hours when lessons are learned she should have stayed at home. I will be going to the school today to collect her results and I intend asking them why they traumatized my daughter in such a way. Please advice me on how best to handle this.

  • Please kindly address the issue and if you ain’t satisfied, please move her to better school. There are lots of ways to handle issues like this and the child will not be involved in any way, I hate when children are meant to suffer for an offense they didn’t commit. Kindly treat this with maturity, thanks.

  • They should Hv called u immediately on the phone but I have to ask, Were the chicken pox completely gone? Cos it will be selfish of u, endangering the health of other kids because your child doesn’t want to miss party. I am a mother so I have to view from both sides.
