Dear MIMsters: Should I Be Worried About My Daughter’s Sight?

Should I be worried about my daughter’s sight?

I have a  daughter who is 4 months old. I noticed when I came back from the office that her body was very hot and she was weak.

My wife gave her some paracetamol and oral drip to sustain her till the next morning when we could take her to the hospital. The next day, we took her to a neonatal hospital and after some medications, her body temperature returned to normal.

Later in the day, she had episodes of seizure. As she was convulsing, half of her body was stiff. After a series of convulsion, she was unable to see and hear nor was she able to make use of her left leg and hand, however, her neck was stiff too.

She was referred to a general teaching hospital, where my daughter was confirmed to be suffering from meningitis. We spent 3 weeks in the general teaching hospital as she was being treated. Now, she can move her legs and hands freely, she can also hear but she can’t see. She glances at things as if she is seeing them and blinks when she sees light.

Based on a series of lab results and observations, the doctor confirmed that her organ is sound that with time she’s going to see. It’s been 2 weeks now after she was discharged, she still cannot see. Are there any doctors reading this who can advise me on how my daughter can regain her sight? Are there any parents who have been in my shoes and were able to find solutions to this, please talk to me.

For everyone else, my daughter needs your prayers. She’s my only daughter. I believe she will regain her sight.
