My First Beef Bolognese Sauce

Exactly two weeks after our wedding, hubby called me from work asking me to make beef bolognese with white rice for him for lunch. In my mind, I was like, ” Ha! bolo gini? Something that I see only on movies. film. Okay o. But as a sabi wife na, I didn’t complain.

As soon as he dropped the call, I picked up my phone and googled it. There were so many recipes, it was confusing and overwhelming and not so easy to understand but I managed to figured it out.

Below is what I did…

INGREDIENTS.

  • 500g of minced Beef
  • 4 table spoons of groundnut oil
  • 1 midium sized Onion
  • Half sliced onions
  • 3 cloves of garlic, cut into tiny pieces
  • Half teaspoon of powdered black pepper
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 4 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 diced large carrot
  • 2 stalks of green onions, chopped
  • A little bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons of curry
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • 2 knor maggi cube
  • Salt to taste

How To Prepare…

  • Blend the tomatoes and onions to paste, adding in black dried pepper.
  • Place dry pan on low heat, and pour in 2 tablespoons of oil.
  • Pour in your blended mix, stir and leave to cook.
  • Place another pot on the fire, and pour in 2 tablespoons of oil and let it heat for a minute
  • Pour your sliced garlic, red, green and yellow peppers and sauté.
  • Add your diced carrots, bay leaf and sliced onions and continue to sauté.
  • Add curry, thyme, seasoning and salt to taste.
  • Now add the minced beef and stir till it loses it’s pink colour.
  • Put out the fire.
  • Check back on the stew, it should be cooked at this point.
  • Turn the entire stew into your meat sauce and mix thoroughly.
  • Allow it to cook for a few minutes until it desired thickness.
  • Put off the cooker

Serve with your white rice or spaghetti.

When hubby got back that evening, I served him the meal and sat nervously watching him. I winced my face in anticipation as he took the first spoonful into his mouth. He shut his eyes as he chewed, then he exclaimed “Ah! baby, this is delicious!” I almost jumped for joy.

Since that day, we have been having beef bolognese twice a week.
